We all know its Restaurant Week. But that's not all that's happening. Check out ...

Chef Sam Putnam, a Boston native, first worked as a line cook at the age of 15, grilling patty melts and BLTs at the late, lamented Brigham's in Harvard Square. After graduating from Bennington College, he moved to the Bay Area where he attended Contra Costa College's acclaimed culinary program, and worked in several popular restaurants including Ristorante Venezia, Café Cheneville and The Corner.
The Bay Area's lively food and restaurant scene helped shape his culinary passions which include Mediterranean food, American home cooking and baking. The two summers he spent as head cook at an organic farm education program were another profound influence. The opportunity to walk out to the garden to choose vegetables for dinner gave him a deep appreciation of local farms and seasonal produce which remains at the heart of his cooking.
After a detour in the Midwest, where he was chef and managing partner at several Italian and American restaurants, Putnam returned to Boston in 2006 to help open the Ashmont Grill. Working with owner Chris Douglass, whom he met through their shared commitment to sustainable agriculture, he created a community landmark featuring home-style contemporary American cuisine and local produce, meat, and seafood.
In 2010, Putnam was the founding Executive Chef of Foundry on Elm, an instant hit in Somerville's Davis Square. There, he created a highly-praised brasserie-tavern menu with something for everyone, from classics like coq au vin and salad nicoise, to creative flatbreads, seafood dishes, and his signature spaetzle.
At Bella Luna, Putnam melds Mediterranean and South American influences with local products to create an affordably-priced, exciting menu that reflects the diverse community the restaurant serves. He continues to support local farmers and fishermen, and is excited to build relationships with the many local food businesses that populate Jamaica Plain.
